Technologies like digital video recorders and the Sling Box, enabling time and place shifting, are changing the way we watch television. But, if you are one of the 90% of Americans who do not yet have either of these technologies, you rely on the television guide, word of mouth or advertisements to learn about upcoming programming. In trying to understand how television viewers locate and decide what programming to watch, we discovered that many who express an interest to watch a given show later forget to watch it for one simple reason: they did not remember either the name, channel, day or time of the show. Viewers did remember at least one of these data elements, but not all. To address this, we created an interface enabling television viewers to manipulate guide data elements independent of one another. This is an early prototype.
